Association: Turkey leads as destination of Russian tourists in May

MOSCOW, May 5 (PRIME) -- Tour operators have registered that each third Russian tourists who wants to fly abroad during the May holidays choses Turkey as their destination point, the Association of Tour Operators of Russia said in a statement on Friday.

In the period, demand for domestic tours fell, while demand for tours to Greece rose about 15–20% on the year, and demand for tours to the Czech Republic rose up to 30%. “It is difficult to track the dynamics of demand for Turkey as Russian tour operators did not provide tours to the country in May 2016, so it will be correct to compare the current data to May 2015,” the association said.

There is no full data on the Turkish market, but separate hotels can provide their own data. For instance, a general manager of OTIUM Hotel Life Kemer, which works exclusively with tour operator Coral Travel, said that the amount of Russian tourists visiting the hotel rose 30% this May compared with May 2015, the association said.

“In general, estimates of tour operators show that Turkey occupies one of the leading positions in demand during the May holidays, as almost each third tourist who chose to have the May holidays abroad went there,” the statement read.
